Birdwatching and Botany Tour at Jardin Botanico del Pacifico

Join us for a unique eco-experience that brings together two of the greatest joys of the Chocó rainforest: birds and plants! Just a short boat ride from Bahía Solano lies the lush community of Mecana, home to the Jardín Botánico del Pacífico, a living classroom of biodiversity nestled between the jungle and the sea.

Our day begins early with a peaceful boat trip along the stunning Pacific coastline to Mecana, where you'll be welcomed by local guides and researchers who dedicate their lives to protecting this incredible corner of Colombia. With binoculars in hand, we’ll explore forest trails alive with the sights and sounds of the region’s vibrant birdlife — including toucans, motmots, manakins, and even the elusive trogon. Over 270 bird species have been recorded here, making it a true hotspot for birdwatchers.

As the sun climbs higher, we’ll shift our focus to the botanical wonders that surround us. Discover towering trees, medicinal plants, endemic orchids, heliconias, and ferns as our guides share insights about the region’s extraordinary flora and its cultural uses. The garden’s trails pass through tropical forest, riverbanks, and mangrove ecosystems, offering a chance to see everything from colorful butterflies to curious monkeys along the way.
