Choose the Perfect El Almejal Experience

At El Almejal Ecolodge, every season offers a unique way to experience Colombia's spectacular Pacific Coast. Throughout the year, we offer three carefully designed programs that allow you to discover the incredible biodiversity, wildlife, and natural beauty of the Chocó Biogeographic Region.

Whether you're hoping to witness the migration of humpback whales, participate in sea turtle conservation, or simply explore pristine rainforest and beaches, there's an unforgettable experience waiting for you.

Whale Watching Program (June 15 – October 20)

Experience one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth as thousands of humpback whales arrive along Colombia's Pacific coast after migrating more than 8,000 kilometers (5,000 miles) from Antarctica to breed, give birth, and care for their calves.

In fact, El Almejal pioneered Colombia's first whale watching program in 1992, making it one of the most experienced operators on the Colombian Pacific Coast.

During your stay, you'll enjoy exciting whale watching excursions while also exploring the incredible natural attractions surrounding Bahía Solano. Depending on the length of your package, your itinerary may include rainforest hikes, waterfalls, beaches, rivers, and visits to the breathtaking Utría National Natural Park.

Baby Sea Turtle Conservation Program (October 20 – December 26)

Take part in one of the most emotional and meaningful experiences on Colombia's Pacific coast.

This regenerative tourism program allows travelers to witness—and when conditions allow, participate in—the release of newly hatched baby sea turtles as they make their first journey into the Pacific Ocean.

Your visit directly supports local conservation initiatives and benefits three important groups:

  • Endangered sea turtles through habitat protection and conservation.

  • Local communities through sustainable tourism.

  • Visitors who become active participants in protecting one of the planet's most vulnerable marine species.

Watching hundreds of tiny turtles instinctively crawl toward the ocean is an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting appreciation for conservation and the fragile beauty of nature.

Each package also includes additional nature activities, allowing you to discover the rainforest, beaches, rivers, waterfalls, and local culture throughout your stay.

Magical Pacific Program (December 26 – June 14)

If you're visiting outside whale season, the Magical Pacific Program offers the perfect opportunity to discover the incredible diversity of Colombia's Pacific Coast.

Designed for travelers seeking adventure, relaxation, and authentic nature experiences, this program combines rainforest exploration, spectacular beaches, rivers, waterfalls, wildlife, and cultural encounters into one unforgettable vacation.

Your stay includes access to El Almejal Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Colombia's Pacific Coast. Spend your days swimming, walking nearly two kilometers of untouched shoreline, practicing yoga, surfing, bodyboarding, or simply relaxing while listening to the waves.

Depending on the length of your stay, your itinerary may also include:

  • Guided walks through El Almejal's private rainforest reserve

  • Boat excursion to Utría National Natural Park

  • Río Valle adventure

  • River tubing

  • Chadó Waterfalls

  • Birdwatching and wildlife observation

  • Community and cultural experiences

The longer you stay, the more excursions and experiences you'll enjoy, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the extraordinary biodiversity of the Chocó.
