El Topacio Nature & Wildlife Hiking Tour – Cali, Colombia
Experience the Best of Pance’s Biodiversity
Embark on an unforgettable nature adventure at El Topacio Environmental Center, a hidden gem tucked into the cloud forests near Pance at 1,676 m above sea level—just about 60 minutes from Cali. This remarkable reserve sits in the foothills of the Farallones de Cali, where lush forests, cool mountain air, and vibrant wildlife combine for a truly immersive outdoor experience.
As you hit the trails, you’ll trek through sub-Andean cloud forest, with ancient trees, ferns, orchids, and more than 80 species of native flora, including medicinal plants like yarumo and otoba. The forest teems with life, and keen observers may spot a dazzling array of birds—over 150 species recorded—from the iconic barranquero (Andean motmot) and gallito de roca (Cock of the rock) to lively tanagers, mirlos and hummingbirds, while butterflies flit among the understory.
The hike itself is moderate and adventure-filled, winding past crystal-clear streams fed by quebradas like La Chorrera and Los Indios, and leading to spectacular waterfalls, including a dramatic cascade that plunges roughly 135 meters—a breathtaking reward as you explore deeper into nature. Along the way, listen for howler monkeys and birdsong, and enjoy the sense of stepping into an untouched mountain world.
Beyond the trails, El Topacio invites you to slow down and soak in the scenery beside a tranquil mountain lake or rest in shaded forest clearings. Whether you’re hiking, birdwatching, photographing wildlife, or simply reconnecting with the natural world, this adventure blends scenic discovery with biodiversity immersion in a setting that feels wild yet welcoming.
